SUMMER IS HERE AND IT'S TIME TO CREATE UNFORGETTABLE MEMORIES WITH YOUR LITTLE ONES! AS A NATIVE HOUSTONIAN AND A MOM OF THREE, I WANT TO SHARE SOME FUN AND UNIQUE THINGS TO DO IN HOUSTON WITH KIDS THIS SUMMER. LET'S EMBARK ON A SUMMER FULL OF LAUGHTER, ADVENTURE, AND PICTURE-PERFECT MOMENTS IN OUR VIBRANT CITY OF HOUSTON, TEXAS! πŸžοΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

1. Splash into Summer at Evelyn Park 🌊

This is one of my favorite parks in Houston. The playscape is natural and fun and different from your basic playground equipment. Plus kids can escape the Texas heat and run around in the water feature. Make sure to bring a towel and change of clothes because you can have a great lunch at Betsy's, right at the park! It's a perfect family day out. 🌈🌞

2. Planting a Butterfly Garden πŸŒΊπŸ¦‹

Bring the park to your own backyard and immerse your family in the joys of nature by planting a butterfly garden! Y'all know my monarchs are so special to me and it's been so much fun to do with my children.

Gather your little gardeners and create a haven for butterflies right in your backyard. Not only is it a delightful and educational activity, but it also brings numerous benefits:

  • Educational Experience: Teach your kids about the life cycle of butterflies and the importance of pollinators in our ecosystem.
  • Colorful Delight: There's nothing better than the vibrant hues of butterflies fluttering around your garden. With the side benefit of lots of flowers to cut for your home or friends. 🌈
  • Connection with Nature: Engaging in gardening fosters a deeper connection with nature, providing a serene and fulfilling environment for your family.
  • Environmental Impact: Supporting butterfly populations contributes to the overall health of the environment by aiding in pollination.

To get started, choose butterfly-friendly plants like milkweed, lavender, and coneflowers. Not only will you create a beautiful space for your family, but you'll also be fostering the well-being of these delicate creatures. If you want to start one this summer and want advice, reach out! I've helped many friends over the years get started on their own butterfly garden and I'd love to help you too! Follow my adventures with Monarchs at this highlight!

3. Discover Space at the Houston Museum of Natural Science πŸš€

Fuel your kids' curiosity about the universe at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. From interactive exhibits to awe-inspiring planetarium shows, this museum promises a day filled with wonder and amazement. Don't miss the chance to photograph those wide-eyed expressions! πŸŒŒπŸ”

Bonus: The butterfly exhibit is a must-do! duh.

4. Picnic Perfection at Buffalo Bayou Park πŸ‰

One of my favorite birthday's was spent having a picnic at Buffalo Bayou Park. It's an ideal spot for a leisurely afternoon with scenic views of the Houston skyline, walking trails, and spacious lawns. Make is special by setting up some fun decor and bringing yummy treats! 🏞️🍽️

5. Artistic Adventures at Iron Works in EaDo 🎨

Unleash your children's creativity at Iron Works in EaDo. They offer several classes each month including candle and soap making, as well as sewing classes. This artistic haven is perfect for crafting memories. Plus, they have a not-to-miss coffee shop (Segundo Coffee Lab) that has amazing brews as well as super yummy breakfast tacos and other treats. πŸŒˆπŸ‘©β€πŸŽ¨

6. Cutest Little Book Store πŸ“š

If you've never been to Blue Willow Bookshop, drop what you're doing and get over there! This summer they have so many fun activities including Toddler (siblings welcome) Story Time on Thursdays at 9:30, a Reading Bingo for kids and adults that culminates in a pizza party, a book mark designing competition for kids, and a silent reading night for adults only this August. I mean, it's kinda the best.

6.Summer Photo Sessions 🏑

Last but not least, summer is the perfect time to get those family sessions done! πŸ“· Get the photos for your holiday cards checked off your list super early his year! We all know how hot Houston gets in the summer (and let's face it, fall isn't much different) but your home is a sanctuary from the heat. Capture the candid moments, laughter, and everyday magic in the comfort of your own space. I'm here to make your in-home lifestyle family session a beautiful and cherished experience.

Alternatively I take on a limited number of travel sessions each summer! My family loves to get our photos done while on vacation. They're great for holiday cards, albums to remember our travels together, and a fun activity.

If either of these sessions sound good to you, let's get you on the books!
